"Elegidos para la gloria _ The right Stuff (1983)" La dedocracia versus la meritocracia académica

La historia a veces depara sorpresas para los que la analizan a posteriori, sin embargo para aquellos que les toca vivirla en el presente la sorpresa es simple y llanamente un día más del calendario. El Proyecto Mercury pudo haber sido un pufo, una de las mayores meteduras de pata de la historia debido al afán de superar a la URSS en la carrera tecnológica. A medida que los rusos superaban a los americanos lanzando el primer satélite y al primer hombre al espacio, los americanos a base de mucho esfuerzo (y algún que otro sin sentido) y con las probabilidades a su favor (esto lo sabemos a toro pasado) iban gestando lo que iba a culminar con la huella de Armstrong, Aldrin y Collins en la superficie lunar.

Antes de todo ello, los hombres jugaban a forzar la maquinaria voladora aumentando la velocidad de los aviones y estimando de qué manera podrían sobrepasar la barrera del sonido o velocidad supersónica. Charles Elwood Yeager fue el primer hombre en atravesar oficialmente la barrera del sonido, el 14 de octubre de 1947, volando con el avión experimental Bell X-1, esta gesta se puede considerar un paralelismo de lo que el Proyecto Mercury buscaba: sobrepasar un límite. Y es aquí donde Elegidos para la Gloria incide más a mi modo de ver. Primero establece ese paralelismo entre ambas metas para después volcarse en el lado más humano. Yeager fue rechazado para la carrera espacial por no tener carrera universitaria aún habiendo demostrado capacidades físicas innatas para poder enfrentarse a semejante reto. Digamos que quedó fuera de las oposiciones a astronauta por no cumplir con uno de los requisitos impuesto desde la NASA, en fin, seguro que os suena. Dejando de lado esta injusticia con los pilotos menos preparados académicamente la NASA tuvo las probabilidades a su favor y eligió a pilotos (marines y fuerzas aéreas) más preparados según su baremo para que llevarán a cabo el Proyecto Mercury de manera exitosa.

La película de Kaufman basada en el libro de Tom Wolfe aunque demasiado larga, es capaz de dar una lección de historia sin ser demasiado "sentimentaloide" ni políticamente correcta. Las interpretaciones están a un nivel notable y la dirección está cuidada y se esmera en mostrar los por menores y deleites del viaje orbital. La banda sonora de Conti es excelente y el guión del propio Kaufman aguanta bastante bien, como el panel térmico de la Mercury Atlas 6. Resumiendo, se trata de una notable película sobre la incipiente puesta en marcha de la carrera espacial en el mundo, centrada sobre todo en los EE.UU y mostrando el lado humano de los que tuvieron la oportunidad de ser parte activa y pasiva de ese pequeño paso para el hombre...

History sometimes holds surprises for the subsequent analyzes, however for those who live in this touching surprise is quite simply another day on the calendar. Leaving aside this injustice with pilots less prepared academically NASA had the odds in your favor and pilots chose (marines and air force) prepared according to their scale more to carry out the Mercury Project successfully.

Kaufman's film based on Tom Wolfe's book but too long, is able to give a history lesson without being too "mushy" or politically correct. The performances are a remarkable level and direction is maintained and strives to show the delights by orbital trip. Conti's soundtrack is excellent and the script by Kaufman holds quite well, as the thermal panel of Mercury Atlas 6. In short, this is a remarkable film about the incipient launch of the space race in the world, centered mostly in the U.S. and showing the human side of those who had the opportunity to be part of the active and passive small step for man ...

"Rocky IV (1985)" No hay salida fácil

El otro día hablando con mis amigos sobre películas deportivas no pude evitar acordarme de la saga de Rocky Balboa, una de las sagas deportivas con más solera y de las que mayor éxito en taquilla se llevó. Casi han pasado tres décadas desde que se estrenara la cuarta entrega de las seis que la componen y todavía me sigo emocionando (ojo que va un spoiler) cuando en el último asalto del combate final Rocky tumba a Drago y le obliga a morder la lona. No me avergüenza reconocer que incluso se me escapa alguna lagrimilla cuando Rocky va asestando un golpe tras otro en el hígado del ruso. Para ser honesto con vosotros os debo confesar que de pequeño yo quería ser como Rocky, tener su fortaleza y su coraje, su entrega y su humildad, es decir, estar hecho de hierro y aguantarlo todo, tal y como le sugiere Drago a uno de sus entrenadores durante el combate final.

El propio Sylvester Stallone se puso tras las cámaras y sobre el papel para dirigir y escribir el guión de la cuarta entrega. ¿Es esta la mejor de la saga? Supongo que la mayoría diría que no, que la primera es una delicia y que a parte de ser un tributo al boxeo es una excelente obra cinematográfica galardonada con el Oscar a la mejor película de 1976. Sin embargo, para mi la cuarta entrega (galardonada con 5 Razzie) es la que me provoca más a nivel físico, con subidones de adrenalina, con unas sesiones de entrenamiento que van calentando al espectador y preparándolo para el clímax final. Además de una banda sonora estupenda tanto en su composición por Vince DiCola y como en la selección de canciones.

Tiene un guión muy simple pero efectivo donde la venganza, el patriotismo y la heroicidad se entremezclan con lo puramente deportivo. Incluso se habla del dopaje (que tan de moda está estos días). Quizás lo más reseñable de la película (quedaban escasos cuatros años para que cayera el telón de acero) es como Stallone, ya con un porvenir labrado y libre de ataduras, se permite el lujo de invocar a la paz entre las dos grandes potencias de aquel momento -la URSS y USA- en el discurso final: ¡ojo spoiler! "...aquí había dos hombres matándose el uno al otro...pero dos hombres es mejor que dos millones..." aplausos, ovaciones y uno preguntándose como es capaz de semejante reflexión después de haber recibido la somanta de palos que lleva encima (desde la primera película).

En resumen, aunque la película se rodará en Vancouver para los exteriores rusos, lo cierto es que consigue transmitir el ambiente adecuado. Es una película deportiva para flipar un rato y activar la vena del ejercicio físico. Su banda sonora es altamente recomendable para realizar cualquier tipo de actividad como el jogging, y vale la pena aunque tan sólo sea para gozar con el show que realiza James Brown en su interpretación de Living in America. Que el que desee la disfrute.

"NO EASY WAY OUT"

The other day talking with my friends about sports movies could not help but remember the saga of Rocky Balboa, one of the most traditional sports franchises and the most successful at the box office was. Almost three decades have passed since it was released the fourth installment of the six that make up and I'm still excited (spoiler care) when the final assault of the final combat Drago Rocky grave and forces him to bite the canvas. I'm not ashamed to admit that even I miss a crybaby when Rocky is dealing a blow after another Russian in the liver. To be honest with you, I must confess that when I was ten, I wanted to be like Rocky, have their strength and courage, devotion and humility, that is, be made of iron and take it all as it suggests Drago one of his coaches during the final battle.

Sylvester Stallone himself got behind the camera and on the role to direct and write the script for the fourth installment. Is this the best in the series? I guess most would say no, that the first is a delight and besides being a tribute to boxing is an excellent film work won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1976. However, for me the fourth installment (won 5 Razzie) is what makes me more physically, with highs of adrenaline, with good training sessions that are warming the audience and preparing for the final climax. Besides a great soundtrack in its composition by Vince DiCola and in the selection of songs.

It has a very simple but effective script where revenge, patriotism and heroism are mixed with pure sports. There is even talk of doping (which is so fashionable these days). Perhaps the highlight of the film (left scant four years to the fall of the Iron Curtain), is seen as Stallone, and styled with a future free from bondage, affords to invoke peace between the two great powers of the time-the USA-USSR and in the final speech: spoiler care! "... here were two men killing each other ... but two men is better than two million ..." applause, cheers and wondering how one is capable of such reflection after receiving the leading clubs locally termed above (from the first film).

In summary, although the film will be shot in Vancouver for Russians outside, the truth is that manages to convey the mood. It's a sports movie to freak out a bit and activate the vein of exercise. Its soundtrack is highly recommended for any kind of activity like jogging, and worth it if only to enjoy the show with James Brown performing in his portrayal of Living in America. What you want to enjoy.

"Top Secret! (1984)" EL DÍA QUE CONOCÍ AL DOCTOR FLAMÓN Y SURFEÉ CON NICK RIVERS. POR JULITO IGLESIAS.

Esta no es una crítica cualquiera, hoy me pongo ante tí con las manos temblorosas intentando hacer justicia a una de las mayores paridas cinematográficas que ha parido (valga la redundancia) madre. No puedo evitar esbozar una sonrisa entre maliciosa e incontrolable mientras recuerdo con cierto anhelo la primera vez que surfeé con Nick Rivers, la primera vez que compré un artículo de coña, la primera vez que descubrí que con una cuchara se pueden hacer grandes obras (gracias Doctor Flamón), la primera vez de tantas cosas. Me molesta no poder reirme a carcajadas como la primera vez y doy gracias a Dios por poder disfrutarla anualmente un par de veces.

Qué importante me parece que podamos echar la vista atrás y reírnos de nuestra propia humanidad. Top Secret, a parte de por el contexto geográfico, alude a una época y a una manera de ver el mundo que nos produce vergüenza y deshonor. Sin embargo es posible sacarle punta  a las cosas y parodiar lo que a veces parece de mal gusto parodiar. Esto viene al caso de que algunas personas critican este tipo de películas por su escaso tacto a la hora de tratar temas como el holocausto o la guerra de Vietnam (véase Hot Shots), aunque siendo justos son más parodias de otras películas, que no de los propios acontecimientos históricos en sí. Sea como fuere me parece de humanos expresar con el humor el horror, puesto que la mayoría de los sucesos más innombrables de la historia parecen sacados de una comedia por lo absurdo que no de un drama.

Son muchas las ocasiones en las que pienso en qué le pasó a Val Kilmer tras rodar Top Secret, parecía como Austin Powers cuando pierde su mojo, ya nunco tuvo ese resplandor ni esa chispa. No son menos las ocasiones en las que me ronda la idea de establecer una nueva casta de motes ocurrentes y mentalmente flexibles como café olé, suffle o croissant. Aspiro con poder comprobar si en los sex shops venden alguna especie de intrusor anal o fue simple ocurrencia de los guionistas. Y finalmente me desespero cuando compruebo que las cintas parideras y de humor absurdo ya no se hacen como las hacían...¡¡¡¿qué os ha pasado Jim Abrahams, David Zucker y Jerry Zucker?!!!

En los días que corren es vital tener herramientas que nos permitan escapar de las rutinas y los malos rollos, herramientas para desconectar y permitirse la carcajada espasmódica y brutal. En esta comedia absurda, que no absurda comedia, se encuentra el santo grial de la juventud eterna, si eres capaz de reírte con ella entonces todavía queda un resquicio de salvación para la humanidad. Si queréis ver al gran ídolo musical Nick Rivers, alter ego de Elvis y mucho mejor interpretado que Jim Morrison en The Doors, si buscáis una peli que provoque el descojone generalizado y sobre todo si no os importa lo que vayan a decir los vecinos introduce el disco en el dvd y disfruta de verdad de la madre de las ocurrencias...pero cuidado...que es Top Secret...sshhhh

This is not a criticism either, today I set before you with trembling hands trying to do justice to one of the greatest films that has calved calved (pun intended) mother. I can not help a smile between malicious and uncontrollable as a longing remember the first time I surfed with Nick Rivers, the first time I bought a joke article, the first time I discovered that a spoon can do great works (thanks Doctor Flamón), the first of many things. It bothers me to not laugh out loud as the first time and I thank God every year to enjoy it a few times.

How important I think we can look back and laugh at our own humanity. Top Secret, in addition to the geographical context, refers to a time and a way of seeing the world that causes us shame and dishonor. However it is possible to sharpen things and parody what sometimes seems tasteless parody. This is a case that some people criticize this movie for your little tact in dealing with issues like the Holocaust or the Vietnam War (see Hot Shots), although to be fair are parodies of other films that the own historical events themselves, any case of humans seems to express the horror with humor, because most of the most unspeakable events of history seem drawn from an absurd comedy not a drama.

Many times when I think about what happened to Val Kilmer after shooting Top Secret, it looked like Austin Powers when he loses his mojo, and never had that glow or spark. There are fewer times when I round the idea of ​​a new breed of witty nicknames like coffee and mentally flexible olé, Shuffle or croissant. I aspire to be able to check if the sex shops sell some sort of anal intrusor or was mere occurrence of the writers. And finally I despair when I see the tapes farrowing and absurd humor and do not like doing what has happened to ...¡¡¡¿ Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker?!

"Nausicaa del valle del viento _ Kaze no tani no Naushika (Nausicaä) (1984)" VERIFICANDO LA HIPÓTESIS DE GAIA

Si comparamos las actuales obras de Miyazaki con esta, lo cierto es que podemos encontrar que con el tiempo ha sabido ganar en narrativa pero en nada desmerece visualmente sus primeras cintas con las últimas. Miyazaki lleva al cine el manga editado en 1982 y no acabado hasta 1994. La película anime está realmente basada en el manga inacabado, y es posible que de ahí Nausicaa se cuente con algo de desenfoque y con elipses que a veces quedan algo forzadas. Le he dado un nueve porque esta película debe entenderse en su contexto histórico. No es que en la década de los ochenta no se hicieran excelentes animes o animaciones anglosajonas, sino que la obra de Miyazaki las supera de mucho no sólo por su calidad técnica que impresiona sino también por el mensaje que transmite.

Aspectos como el militarismo y el nihilismo son tratados en un segundo plano en Nausicaa para dar mayor importancia a la famosa hipótesis de Gaia de Lovelock por la que la Tierra se autorregula como si de un macroorganismo se tratase. De hecho yo estoy bastante de acuerdo con esta hipótesis hasta tal punto que creo que hoy hay un antropocentrismo exagerado que no nos deja ver que las actividades que en principio van en contra del medio ambiente lo son porque dificultarían nuestra futura existencia. Si algún día nuestras actividades acaban con nuestro medio ambiente se extinguirá la raza humana y quizás numerosos organismos que ahora conviven con nosotros pero la naturaleza seguirá funcionando, adaptándose a nuevas concentraciones gaseosas y equilibrando un sistema en el que el hombre desaparecerá de la ecuación. Es lo que "nuestro" planeta ha estado haciendo durante cientos de millones de años y lo que seguirá haciendo muy seguramente hasta que el Sol se convierta en una Supernova y borre la Tierra del Sistema Solar.

Supuestamente estamos observando en todo momento un planeta Tierra postapocalíptico y futuro, pasados 1.000 años desde que la excesiva industrialización lo convirtiera en un páramo en el que la jungla tóxica va extendiendose a sus anchas y donde las Gorgonas (Ohms en el manga) se comportan como los sherifs de estas junglas repletas de hongos y esporas, y que Miyazaki convierte en un auténtico Edén de la diversidad de formas y especies fantásticas y no tanto.

Nausicaä es la auténtica heroína de la cinta, subida en su Montanubes (al estilo de la Nube Kinto de Son Goku). Tiene un comportamiento al estilo Jane Goodall, muy naturalista y fascinada con la fauna de la jungla tóxica sus idearios le otorgan un halo de bondad que casi ningún personaje alcanza si exceptuamos a Lord Yupa, un increíble espadachín y admirador de Nausicaä (Sandra en la cinta).

Me declaro un admirador fiel de Miyazaki y Nausicaä rebosa la esencia de sus mejores trabajos. Para acabar os dejo un extracto de una entrevista del director nipón en The New Yorker: "La mayor parte de la cultura moderna es superficial y falsa, pende de un hilo, y no es algo que se haya de tomar en broma. [...] Expreso mi interés hacia una época venidera apocalíptica en la que 'verdes hierbas silvestres' tomarán el relevo. [...] El período Showa fue triste porque la naturaleza, las montañas y los ríos, todo ello estaba siendo destruido en nombre del progreso económico. Sin embargo no aprendemos nada de lo acontecido en el pasado. [...] No obstante los adultos (piensen lo que puedan pensar y crean en lo que crean) no deberían imponer su visión del mundo en los niños". Hayao Miyazaki.

CHECKING THE GAIA HYPOTHESIS.

If we compare the current works of Miyazaki with this, the truth is that we can find that over time Miyazaki has earned in narrative but in no way detracts from his early films visually with the latest. Miyazaki films leads to the manga released in 1982 and not finished until 1994. Supposedly we are watching at all times and future post-apocalyptic Earth, past 1,000 years from the excessive industrialization turned it into a wasteland in which the toxic jungle is extending at home and where the Gorgons (Ohms in the manga) behave like sheriffs of these jungles teeming with fungi and spores, and Miyazaki Eden becomes a real diversity of forms and species rather fantastic.

Nausicaä is the real hero of the film, in its Montanubes rise (in the style of Kinto Cloud Son Goku). Its behavior Godall Jane style, very naturalistic and fascinated with the wildlife of the jungle their ideologies toxic give an aura of goodness that almost any character reaches the exception of Lord Yupa, an incredible swordsman and admirer of Nausicaä (Sandra on tape).

I declare myself a true fan of Miyazaki and Nausicaä exudes the essence of his best work. A greeting.
