"Rocky IV (1985)" No hay salida fácil

El otro día hablando con mis amigos sobre películas deportivas no pude evitar acordarme de la saga de Rocky Balboa, una de las sagas deportivas con más solera y de las que mayor éxito en taquilla se llevó. Casi han pasado tres décadas desde que se estrenara la cuarta entrega de las seis que la componen y todavía me sigo emocionando (ojo que va un spoiler) cuando en el último asalto del combate final Rocky tumba a Drago y le obliga a morder la lona. No me avergüenza reconocer que incluso se me escapa alguna lagrimilla cuando Rocky va asestando un golpe tras otro en el hígado del ruso. Para ser honesto con vosotros os debo confesar que de pequeño yo quería ser como Rocky, tener su fortaleza y su coraje, su entrega y su humildad, es decir, estar hecho de hierro y aguantarlo todo, tal y como le sugiere Drago a uno de sus entrenadores durante el combate final.

El propio Sylvester Stallone se puso tras las cámaras y sobre el papel para dirigir y escribir el guión de la cuarta entrega. ¿Es esta la mejor de la saga? Supongo que la mayoría diría que no, que la primera es una delicia y que a parte de ser un tributo al boxeo es una excelente obra cinematográfica galardonada con el Oscar a la mejor película de 1976. Sin embargo, para mi la cuarta entrega (galardonada con 5 Razzie) es la que me provoca más a nivel físico, con subidones de adrenalina, con unas sesiones de entrenamiento que van calentando al espectador y preparándolo para el clímax final. Además de una banda sonora estupenda tanto en su composición por Vince DiCola y como en la selección de canciones.

Tiene un guión muy simple pero efectivo donde la venganza, el patriotismo y la heroicidad se entremezclan con lo puramente deportivo. Incluso se habla del dopaje (que tan de moda está estos días). Quizás lo más reseñable de la película (quedaban escasos cuatros años para que cayera el telón de acero) es como Stallone, ya con un porvenir labrado y libre de ataduras, se permite el lujo de invocar a la paz entre las dos grandes potencias de aquel momento -la URSS y USA- en el discurso final: ¡ojo spoiler! "...aquí había dos hombres matándose el uno al otro...pero dos hombres es mejor que dos millones..." aplausos, ovaciones y uno preguntándose como es capaz de semejante reflexión después de haber recibido la somanta de palos que lleva encima (desde la primera película).

En resumen, aunque la película se rodará en Vancouver para los exteriores rusos, lo cierto es que consigue transmitir el ambiente adecuado. Es una película deportiva para flipar un rato y activar la vena del ejercicio físico. Su banda sonora es altamente recomendable para realizar cualquier tipo de actividad como el jogging, y vale la pena aunque tan sólo sea para gozar con el show que realiza James Brown en su interpretación de Living in America. Que el que desee la disfrute.

"NO EASY WAY OUT"

The other day talking with my friends about sports movies could not help but remember the saga of Rocky Balboa, one of the most traditional sports franchises and the most successful at the box office was. Almost three decades have passed since it was released the fourth installment of the six that make up and I'm still excited (spoiler care) when the final assault of the final combat Drago Rocky grave and forces him to bite the canvas. I'm not ashamed to admit that even I miss a crybaby when Rocky is dealing a blow after another Russian in the liver. To be honest with you, I must confess that when I was ten, I wanted to be like Rocky, have their strength and courage, devotion and humility, that is, be made of iron and take it all as it suggests Drago one of his coaches during the final battle.

Sylvester Stallone himself got behind the camera and on the role to direct and write the script for the fourth installment. Is this the best in the series? I guess most would say no, that the first is a delight and besides being a tribute to boxing is an excellent film work won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1976. However, for me the fourth installment (won 5 Razzie) is what makes me more physically, with highs of adrenaline, with good training sessions that are warming the audience and preparing for the final climax. Besides a great soundtrack in its composition by Vince DiCola and in the selection of songs.

It has a very simple but effective script where revenge, patriotism and heroism are mixed with pure sports. There is even talk of doping (which is so fashionable these days). Perhaps the highlight of the film (left scant four years to the fall of the Iron Curtain), is seen as Stallone, and styled with a future free from bondage, affords to invoke peace between the two great powers of the time-the USA-USSR and in the final speech: spoiler care! "... here were two men killing each other ... but two men is better than two million ..." applause, cheers and wondering how one is capable of such reflection after receiving the leading clubs locally termed above (from the first film).

In summary, although the film will be shot in Vancouver for Russians outside, the truth is that manages to convey the mood. It's a sports movie to freak out a bit and activate the vein of exercise. Its soundtrack is highly recommended for any kind of activity like jogging, and worth it if only to enjoy the show with James Brown performing in his portrayal of Living in America. What you want to enjoy.

"Roller Girls _ Whip It (2009)" UN FILM DREWLICIOSO

Tras dirigir el documental "Choose or Lose Presents: The Best Place to Start" en 2004, Drew Barrymore se estrenó en la dirección cinematográfica en 2009 (...sí, como lo leen...) con Whip It, una historia sobre el deporte (del que desconocía absolutamente su existencia) denominado Roller Derby, inventado en Estados Unidos se basa en la competición de dos equipos que patinan sobre ruedas en una pista oval y cuyo objetivo es conseguir más puntos que el otro adelantando posiciones mediante el uso generalmente del mamporro, zancadillas, manotazos, etc. Drew Barrymore dirige de manera notable esta cinta en la que el guión de Shauna Cross está perfectamente en sintonía con la fotografía estupenda llevada por Robert Yeoman. Lo que más destaca es su estilo ochentero donde la familiaridad y profundidad de sus personajes permite recorrer todo el film sin aburrir en ningún momento. Aunque el punto fuerte es sin duda el deporte que se nos muestra y que le da ese toque de novedad, la historia no es menos interesante y brillante.

Los personajes podrían ser los de cualquier lugar del mundo y cualquier condición. Es la típica historia (porque en cine ya esta casi todo inventado) repleta de aprendizajes sobre la madurez y la felicidad, sobre encontrarse a uno mismo y escoger, cuando estamos en una encrucijada, hacia dónde dirigirnos. No importa que ya hayamos visto antes el discurso entre padres e hijos, porque de lo que se trata es de que Roller Girls transmite emociones, emociones que se dividen a la perfección con cada capítulo de la historia en la que nos encontramos. En los 111 minutos que dura el film nos permitimos el lujo de reflexionar abiertamente, de vibrar y experimenta subidones de adrenalina, de reír y sonreír y de sentir la pena del que arriesga sin miedo a perder.

El reparto es excepcional en la vertiente femenina, destacando sobremanera Ellen Page , una joven actriz que desde que recuerdo haberla visto en Juno nunca me ha defraudado. También destacable Marcia Gay Harden en el papel de madre. Drew Barrymore también aparece en la cinta encarnando a  la jugadora más bestia del equipo de Roller Derby, la verdad es que imagino que en cuanto vio el guión se lo reservaría para ella. Y atención que también esta Juliette Lewis (la incansable) como antagonista, una actuación que ni fu ni fa, aunque el personaje le esta que ni pintado.

A primera vista pueda parecer que Whip It sea un película para tíos, más que nada por eso de que va de un equipo de tías (que no están nada mal), vistiendo uniformes cortitos y dándose de todo menos abrazos y caricias. Y quizás desde otro punto de vista parezca una peli para chicas, por eso de que va de un equipo femenino y de la relación entre una hija y su madre y los devaneos amorosos de la primera. Pues hay que dejar los prejuicios atrás porque no es ni una cosa no la otra. Se trata de una obra muy redonda y perfecta para todos los públicos, con múltiples aspectos que apreciar e no pocas lecciones de las que aprender.

A DREWLICIOUS FILM

After directing the documentary "Choose or Lose Presents: The Best Place to Start" in 2004, Drew Barrymore debuted as film director in 2009 (... yes, as you read ...) with Whip It, a story about sport (which absolutely know its existence) called Roller Derby, invented in the United States based on the competition of two teams that skate on wheels on an oval track and aims to get more points than the other forward positions by using the usual Smite, tripping, slapping, etc. Drew Barrymore significantly addressed this tape of Shauna Cross's script is perfectly in tune with the great photo taken by Robert Yeoman. What stands out most is his eighties style where familiarity and depth of its characters can go through the film without boring in no time. While the highlight is undoubtedly the sport that shows and gives a touch of novelty, the story is no less interesting and bright.

The characters could be anywhere in the world in every condition. Is the typical story (because in this film and almost all made up) full of lessons about maturity and happiness, about finding yourself and choose, when we are at a crossroads, where to turn. No matter that we have already seen before the discourse between parents and children, because of what it is that Roller Girls conveys emotions, emotions that divide perfectly with each chapter of history in which we live. In the 111 minutes the film takes us the luxury of open debate, to vibrate and experience adrenaline rush, to laugh and smile and feel the pain of that risk without fear of losing.

The cast is exceptional in the women's side, heavily emphasizing Ellen Page, a young actress since I remember having seen her in Juno never let me down. Marcia Gay Harden also highlight the role of mother. Drew Barrymore also appears on the tape player embodying the wildest Roller Derby team, the truth is that I imagine that when he saw the script it set aside for her. And attention is also Juliette Lewis (the restless) as an antagonist, a performance that half and half, though the character he is in handy.

At first glance it may seem that Whip It is a movie for guys, mostly so that is a team of aunts (which is not bad), cortitos uniforms and giving anything but hugs and caresses.And perhaps from a different point of view looks like a movie for girls, so that is a women's team and the relationship between a daughter and her mother and the love affairs of the former. Then you have to leave prejudices behind because it is neither one thing not the other. This is a very round and perfect work for all audiences, with many aspects to appreciate and not a few lessons from which to learn.

Tras la experiencia exitosa de Evasión o Victoria dirigida por John Huston (actor en esta cinta), Pelé realiza su segunda y última incursión cinematográfica. Se trata de un film dirigido a todo tipo de públicos aunque yo lo recomendaría sobre todo para niños. La historia es interesante, con un hilo argumental que, aún siendo muy previsible, mantiene al espectador en vilo hasta casi el final. Vale la pena disfrutar del fútbol en estado puro, con un equipo de huérfanos que ya quisieran los filiales del Barcelona o el Madrid. Pelé no defrauda teniendo en cuenta que lo suyo es el balón. Si eres mínimamente futbolero y medianamente cinéfilo no hay que perderse esta película altamente interesante y una rareza del cine norteamericano.
