"Will & Grace (1998-2006)" Voluntad y Gracia

En el año 1998, la NBC apostó, cabe decir que sin mucha convicción de éxito, en una serie sobre gays y heteros de dudosas aspiraciones morales y carentes de seriedad, es decir, unos excéntricos de mucho cuidado. Esta sitcom se convirtió en seguida en uno de los shows televisivos más seguidos,  capaz de hacer sombra a la mismísima Friends: hay para hacerse cruces. En fin, aquellos de vosotros que la hayáis visto alguna vez habréis notado que la serie no es nada novedosa, puesto que trata sobre situaciones "reales" (un poco sacadas de contexto en la mayoría de ocasiones) entre personas "cotidianas" (poco creíbles es quedarse algo corto). Para mi, su éxito radica precisamente en que intenta tratar temas triviales de forma hiperbólica y disparatada, aludiendo de manera casi continua a la vida de los famosos estadounidenses, convertidos (nefasta decisión por cierto) en españoles por los dobladores.

Que una mujer se enamore de un homosexual ocurre hasta en las mejores familias, que acaben viviendo juntos como si fueran pareja es posible pero poco probable. Que esto ocurra en Nueva York, en el Upper West Side de Manhattan para más señas, lo hace algo más creíble, y que esta singular pareja acabe asociándose con otra pareja formada por otro gay moldeado por la santísima Cher y una ricachona drogadicta y alcohólica que campa a sus anchas por la ciudad vuelve a ser sospechosamente poco plausible. Voluntad y gracia, que es la traducción de Will & Grace, además de dos nombres propios, resumen las características de los protagonistas, la voluntad de encontrar pareja y la gracia por la que la suerte sonríe al dúo (y al cuarteto cuando pertenece) con excesiva regularidad.

Dicho esto, hay que valorar positivamente la cara entretenida de la serie que es lo que a mi me ha permitido llegar hasta el último capítulo (187 en total) de sus ocho temporadas. A este entretenimiento y divertimiento sobre locazas y mujeres desesperadas, hay que sumar también el apartado de los cameos. Los cameos, sobre todo a partir de la tercera temporada, se convierten en un elemento más del show y en una herramienta para captar más adeptos. Las apariciones de famosos no cesan y a medida que se avanza estrellas de mayor envergadura van apareciendo ya sea para poner la cara o para quedarse unos cuantos episodios. Por poner algunos ejemplos entre muchos: Sidney Pollack, Cher, Britney Spears, Patrick Dempsey, Madonna, Harry Connick Jr, Woody Harrelson, John Cleese, Geena Davis, Miguel Ferrer, Matt Damon, Andy García, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Minnie Driver, Macaulay Culkin, Alec Baldwin, Jack Black, James Earl Jones, Rosie O'Donnell, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Luke Perry, Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Bacon, Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, Gene Wilder, Tom Skerritt, etc.

A los que os guste la comedia que recurre a la parodia constante no os defraudará Will & Grace, al resto seguramente acabe aburriéndole y pareciendo muy monótona y carente de originalidad. Recomiendo a los que se lo planteen que la vean en versión original, porque la versión doblada está plagada de chistes sin sentido y frases sobre famosos españoles que no pegan ni con cola con los contextos pensados para los Estados Unidos. Con todo siempre nos quedarán las interpretaciones del cuarteto Will & Grace y Karen & Jack (de estos dos últimos se rumoreaba con la posibilidad de realizar un spin-off), magníficos en sus roles y cómicos impagables.

TO GAY OR NOT TO GAY

In 1998, NBC bet it can be said without much conviction that success in a series on gays and straights of dubious moral aspirations and lack of seriousness, that is, about eccentric carefully. Whether this happens in New York on the Upper West Side of Manhattan to be exact, it makes it more credible, and that this unique pair became associated with another gay couple formed by other molding the Blessed Cher and drug addict and alcoholic rich guyrampant in the city again becomes suspiciously implausible. Will and grace, which is the translation of Will & Grace, and two names, summarizes the characteristics of the protagonists, will find romance and grace that luck smiles at the duo (and the quartet when it belongs) too regularly.

That said, there has to be welcomed entertaining face in the series which is what has allowed me to reach the last chapter (187 in total) of his eight seasons. In this entertaining and fun on locazas and desperate women, we must add also the section of the cameos. The cameos, especially from the third season, become an element of the show and a tool to attract more followers. The appearances of famous and not stop as you go larger stars are appearing either to put the face or to stay a few episodes. To give some examples among many: Sydney Pollack, Cher, Britney Spears, Patrick Dempsey, Madonna, Harry Connick Jr, Woody Harrelson, John Cleese, Geena Davis, Miguel Ferrer, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson Ellen DeGeneres, Minnie Driver, Macaulay Culkin, Alec Baldwin, Jack Black, James Earl Jones, Rosie O'Donnell, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Luke Perry, Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Bacon, Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, Gene Wilder, Tom Skerritt, etc.

At you like comedy that relies on constant parody will not disappoint Will & Grace, the rest will probably end up bored and looking very dull and lacking originality. I recommend it to those who raise them to see the original version, because the dubbed version is full of jokes and meaningless phrases about Spanish celebrities that do not stick or glue to the contexts designed for the United States.But always be the quartet's interpretations Will & Grace and Karen & Jack (the latter two are rumored to the possibility of a spin-off), magnificent in their roles and priceless comic.

"Twin Peaks (1990)" EL CULEBRÓN PARA FRIKIES

Una serrería sirve como telón de fondo para la introducción de una serie que marcó una antes y un después en el mundo de la televisión casi de manera casual o sin proponérselo. Twin Peaks es un pueblo-ciudad que a simple vista sería el ideal para establecerse y formar una familia, de hecho todo el mundo lo cree así, pero la repentina y dolorosa muerte de la estudiante Laura Palmer arroja toda una serie de preguntas sobre sus principales habitantes y sobre los bosques y leyendas que rodean el lugar. Recuerdo perfectamente como si fuera ayer toda la publicidad de Telecinco (por aquellos entonces "tu cadena de acción...blablabla") con aquella voz penetrante preguntando una y otra vez : ¿quién mató a Laura Palmer? Yo era en aquella época un piltrafilla flipado por las pelis de terror (todavía conservo lo de flipado) y mis padres me iban lanzando indirectas encaminadas a que desistiera en mi intención de ver la serie. Yo por su puesto le restaba importancia a lo macabro y lo morboso y me centraba en el argumento detectivesco que protagonizaba el agente Cooper junto con el Sheriff Truman y sus ayudantes. Finalmente acabé convenciendo a mis progenitores y pude disfrutar (no tanto como en la actualidad) de una buena ración de intriga televisiva.

A veces es necesario toparse con esas personas que solemos catalogar como excéntricos de ideas raras, personas que son capaces de imaginar cosas que a los demás nos parecen atractivas, morbosas o repugnantes. David Lynch es capaz de producir cosas así dentro de contextos de realidad cotidiana provocando asombro en el espectador. No conozco los entresijos de todas las obras del director pero en Twin Peaks todo lo que rodeó su producción hizo que la serie adquiriera el alma de Lynch y que su éxito fuera en parte gracias a la concatenación de algunos de los siguientes hechos: su puesta en parrilla televisiva no auspiciaba más que una mini temporada, algunos de los elementos más importantes surgieron casi por casualidad (como el personaje de Bob, un operario despistado que se coló en una de las escenas y al que Lynch le resultó propicio), la elección del contexto geográfico en el que se desarrolla la historia que permite la ambigüedad y la excentricidad y por supuesto la mezcla de una excelente banda sonora de Badalamenti junto con unos montajes visuales por lo menos impactantes.No es raro que en el cine y la televisión las localizaciones acaben convirtiéndose en un personaje más, en mis críticas casi siempre aludo a esto porque creo que es de vital importancia que el paisaje y los lugares, sea cual sea la escala (desde una casa a toda una región), sirvan no sólo como decorado sino también como canalizador y ente con personalidad propia. Twin Peaks no sólo se configura como personaje sino que para mi es el más importante de todos, cualquiera de los habitantes que nos muestran Lynch y Frost se ven de una u otra forma condicionados por el espíritu del bosque que rodea a la ciudad. En él se concentran unas serie de actividades de carácter paranormal tirando a ufológicas que marcan el destino de cada uno de ellos, todo esto sin que sea percibido por nadie con la excepción de Cooper y el Mayor Briggs.

Desde la perspectiva actual me doy cuenta que por poner un ejemplo, Expediente X bebió yo diría que directamente de esta serie no sólo en la estética sino en la parte cómica. Resulta muy interesante esa mezcla de lo paranormal con un humor modoso y nada recargado, parece que le va a la perfección para evadirse de vez en cuando de esas teorías que en un principio son absurdas pero que poco a poco van teniendo su sentido y su atractivo. Al final Twin Peaks no es aterradora ni tampoco es divertida, se podría decir que es "terricómica" con sutiles matices de ciencia ficción. La recomiendo de todas todas.

THE SOAP OPERA FOR GEEKS

A sawmill serves as backdrop for the introduction of a series that marked a before and after in the world of television almost casually or unintentionally. Twin Peaks is a town center that at first glance would be ideal to settle down and raise a family, indeed the whole world thinks so, but the sudden and painful death of student Laura Palmer throws a series of questions about major people and forests and legends surrounding the place. I distinctly remember it like yesterday all advertising Telecinco (by those so "your chain of action ... blablabla") with that penetrating voice asking over and over again: Who killed Laura Palmer? I was at that time a piltrafilla stoked by horror movies (I still flip it) and my parents were dropping hints designed to desist in my intention to see the show. I of course downplays the macabre and the morbid and I focused on the argument that featured agent detective with the Sheriff Cooper Truman and his aides. Finally I ended up convincing my parents and I enjoyed (not as much as at present) a good dose of intrigue television.

Sometimes you need to run into those people who usually categorized as eccentric weird ideas, people who are capable of imagining things that others seem attractive, morbid or disgusting.David Lynch is able to produce things like contexts of everyday life astonishes the viewer. I do not know the ins and outs of all the works director in Twin Peaks but everything that surrounded its production series made to acquire the soul of Lynch and its success was partly due to the concatenation of any of the following facts: its implementation sponsored television grill no more than a mini season, some of the most important elements emerged almost by accident (like Bob's character, a clueless operator who broke into a scene and that was conducive Lynch), the choice ofgeographical context in which the story unfolds allowing the ambiguity and the eccentricity and of course an excellent mix of Badalamenti soundtrack for a visual montages with at least impactantes.No is rare in film and TV locations end up becoming a character in my criticisms often allude to this because I think it is vital that the landscape and places, whatever the scale (from one house to an entire region), serve not only as decoration but also as a channel and being with personality. Twin Peaks is configured as not only character but for me is the most important of all, any of the people that show Lynch and Frost are in some way conditioned by the spirit of the forest surrounding the city. It focused a series of paranormal activities of a UFO shooting that marks the destiny of each one of them, all without being perceived by anyone with the exception of Cooper and Major Briggs.

In retrospect I realize that for instance, X-Files directly drank I would say that this series not only in aesthetics but in the comic. It is very interesting that mix the paranormal with a well-behaved and uncluttered mood, it seems to go perfectly to escape occasionally from those theories that are absurd at first but slowly they have meaning and appeal . At the end of Twin Peaks is not scary, nor is it fun, you could say is "terricómica" with subtle nuances of science fiction. I recommend it all all.

"Urgencias _ ER (1994-2009)" 15 AÑOS EN LA SALA DE ESPERA

Tras el fallecimiento en 2008 de Michel Crichton, la serie urgencias perdió algo más que a su creador. Urgencias es sencillamente Crichton en estado puro, un éxito que no tiene parangón posible y que con el actual panorama (ninguna serie esta a salvo de ser suspendida repentinamente) dudo que se repita en décadas. No me pidan que resuma en una frase porqué se tiene que ver Urgencias porque es imposible. ER es la serie de la steadicam, es la serie de las verdades, es la serie de las relaciones humanas a flor de piel y en el día a día, es más que una serie de médicos y es la serie de médicos por excelencia, es una serie para reflexionar sobre lo fugaz de nuestra existencia y sobre lo quejicas que nos hemos vuelto todos. Urgencias es la serie que cualquier adicto a la tele que se precie no debe dejar escapar.

Me voy a abstener de hablar del reparto (un lujo con mayúsculas) porque como comprenderán en 15 años han pasado por el County no menos que una legión de estupendos personajes a los que seguro ofendería si olvidara mencionar a alguno. Tampoco me voy a atrever a hablar sobre la duración de la serie, porque todos los que amen ER coincidirán con un servidor en que se ha hecho cortísima. No voy a explicar qué es lo que nos lleva a unirnos a la secta de médicos, enfermeras, paramédicos y administrativos del County General de Chicago porqué es algo que debe vivirse, desde dentro, desde las entrañas del monstruo televisivo. Es más, pido disculpas de antemano, porque no voy a poder poner todo el material fotográfico y audiovisual que haría justicia a la serie.

Creo que desde que empecé a ver Urgencias cada vez que he tenido que ir a un hospital y visitar exactamente urgencias me he fijado en cómo trabajan, en si están la mitad de estresados que en la serie, si son tan guapos, si hay gente vomitando en la sala de espera, si voy a ver caer un helicóptero desde la azotea, si encontraré a dos médicos dándose el lote, si abro una puerta y encuentro a una doctora echando la siesta, si es cierto que están por allí durante días, etc. Lo cierto es que lo único en que se parecen las Urgencias de mi ciudad con las de Chicago es en el tiempo que hay que esperar para que miren un bultito sospechoso antes de caer fulminado al suelo por un ataque al corazón y empiecen a decir eso de 3 en la escala glasgow (que digo gilipolleces), una ampolla de epinefrina (para aumentar el ritmo cardíaco) y, empiecen compresiones (mal asunto porque puede que la diñes ahí mismo).

Bueno... vale... está bien, no todo es de color de rosa. Hay un aspecto de la serie que a mi entender le quita ese puntito en el guión que habrán observado al comenzar la crítica. Yo me pregunto: ¡por el amor de Dios!, ¿es posible que un grupo de gente concreto tenga tal gafe acumulado que todo lo malo (supermalo) que pueda pasar les ocurra a ellos? Es el único comentario negativo que mis palabras apuntarán en esta crítica, porque por lo demás Urgencias es la niña de mis ojos, y les puedo asegurar que estos ojos la han contemplado y la contemplarán hasta que la muerte me llevé a.......Chachachachán......Urgencias.

15 YEARS IN THE WAITING ROOM

Following the death in 2008 of Michel Crichton, ER series lost more than its creator.ER Crichton is simply pure, a success that is unmatched as possible and with the current scenario (no series is to be suspended unless suddenly) I doubt they would repeat in decades. Do not ask me to summarize in one sentence why you have to watch ER because it's impossible. ER is the steadicam series is the series of truths, is the set of human relationships to the surface and in the day to day is more than a series of doctors and medical series for excellence, a series to reflect on how fleeting our existence and what we have become whiners all. ER is the number addicted to any TV worth its salt should not miss. 

I'm going to refrain from talking about the cast (a luxury in capital letters) because as you will understand in 15 years have passed by the County no less than a legion of great characters that offended if I forgot to mention insurance to some. Nor will I dare to talk about the duration of the series, because all those who love ER coincide with a server that has become very short. I will not explain what leads us to join the sect of physicians, nurses, paramedics and administrative aspects of Chicago's County General because it is something to be lived from within, from the entrails of the monster TV. Furthermore, I apologize in advance because I will not be able to put all the photographic and audiovisual material do justice to the series.

I think that since I started watching ER every time I had to go to a hospital emergency room visit I've noticed exactly how they work, in half if they are stressed in the series, if they are so cute, if there are people throwing up in the waiting room, if I see a helicopter falling from the roof, if I find two doctors giving the lot, if I open a door and find a doctor throwing a nap, if it is true that lie there for days, etc. . The truth is that the only thing resembling the ER in my city of Chicago is the time to wait to watch a suspicious lump struck before falling to the ground by a heart attack and start to say that about 3 on the Glasgow scale (I say crap), a vial of epinephrine (to increase heart rate) and begin compressions (bad thing because it can that dines on the spot).

Well ... okay ... okay, not everything is rosy. One aspect of the series which I believe takes away that little point in the script to be observed at the beginning of criticism. I wonder, for the love of God, is it possible that a particular group of people have accumulated such a jinx all evil (the very bad) can happen to them happen to them? It is the only negative comment that my words will aim at this critical, because otherwise ER is the apple of my eye, and I can assure you that these eyes have seen and contemplate death until I got a. .... "EXPEDIENTE X_X FILES (1993)" PENDIENTES DE LA X

Si me dieran un euro cada vez que al ver una luz en el cielo he pensado tan sólo por un segundo que era un OVNI ahora acumularía una fortuna de unos 50 o 60 €. No es mucho, aunque seguro que algunos tendrían para pagar el alquiler durante un año. La posibilidad de vida en otros planetas ha sido y seguirá siendo tema de debate, no sólo en el ámbito de la ciencia o la religión, sino también en plena calle.

¿Cómo empieza uno a interesarse por una serie como Expediente X ? La respuesta está claramente reflejada en el póster que Mulder tiene colgado en su despacho que reza "I want to believe" bajo una imagen de un ovni sobrevolando una llanura. A mucha gente le gustaría creer que tales expedientes sin aparente explicación son reales, que existen sucesos que la ciencia no puede explicar, que hay sorpresas más allá de la rutina diaria.

Expediente X es una de las mejores series de ciencia ficción que la televisión ha alumbrado, sin embargo, no se queda solamente en la ciencia ficción. A medida que van transcurriendo las temporadas (9 en total), se observa cómo los episodios van recurriendo en más ocasiones a la vertiente paródica tirando a cómica, eso sí, nunca perdiendo de vista las conspiraciones gubernamentales ni el tema ufológico predominante. Los casos a los que se enfrentan la pareja del FBI van a ser muy variados: desde simples casos de asesinatos rodeados de la sombra conspirativa habitual hasta los casos más peculiares con telekinesis, exorcismos entre otros y por supuesto el principal de las abducciones. Lo importante es que sea cual sea el caso el espectador siempre queda satisfecho con el argumento, guión y explicaciones para poder entender lo inexplicable.

Una mención especial merece la pareja protagonista, sin duda el alma de los expedientes X. Si antes se ha dicho que el eje ufológico-conspirativo es el dominante, no es menos importante la historia de amor entre Mulder y Scully. Desde un principio hay química y su relación irá madurando, aunque eso sí, a un ritmo lentísimo para el gusto de un servidor. Esta historia paralela a los casos es bajo mi punto de vista básica para darle a la serie ese factor humano sin el cual la serie tendría un exceso de efectos especiales y hombrecillos grises.

Esta serie será recordada durante décadas y viendo la parrilla actual de series norteamericanas es un ejemplo que muchos otros han seguido (véase Fringe de JJ Abrahams). Dotada de unos guiones magníficos, la producción es soberbia y su banda sonora es simplemente excepcional -seguramente no haya nadie que al escucharla no reconozca su procedencia-. Aunque en el apartado interpretativo no se requerían de grandes actores el casting fue todo un acierto. En resumen, si crees en los platillos volantes o por el contrario eres un auténtico escéptico, si piensas que existe vida después de la muerte o apuestas por la reencarnación, si meditas la posibilidad de hacer carrera en el FBI o simplemente quieres pasar un rato entre entretenido y en ocasiones lleno de incertidumbre e intriga Expediente X es tu serie.
