"La Reina de África_The African Queen (1951)" Huston, tenemos un problema.

Algunos meses después de haber visionado esta película entre la aventura, la comedia y el romance, caigo ahora en la cuenta de sus semejanzas con la cinta protagonizada por Harrison Ford y Anne Heche "Seis días y siete noches". Desde luego no se parece en nada Heche a la genial Katherine Hepburn ni Ford al magnífico Humphrey Bogart, pero en la relación que se establece entre ambos personajes de las diferentes tramas si que existe cierto paralelismo, sobre todo porque ambos acaban influyendo en la manera de pensar del otro y obviamente por esa aventura que transcurre en plena naturaleza y que le da a "La reina de África" su aliciente extra y su valor añadido.

Como con muchas películas de aquella década, no fueron pocos los impedimentos que sufrió el proyecto antes de poder filmarse y estrenarse. La novela se publicó en 1935 del puño y letra de Cecil Scott Forester, pasando más de 15 años hasta que el cine le diera la oportunidad que se merecía. Se barajaron diferentes intérpretes, más concretamente Bette Davis y David Niven, pero finalmente con John Huston dirigiendo acabaron tanto Bogart como Hepburn volando hasta El Congo (Rio Riuki) y huyendo de decorados y estudios que no hubieran ofrecido la imagen y la fotografía que Spiegel y sobre todo Huston querían y deseaban. Bueno, para ser sinceros Huston pretendía también practicar caza mayor, y como en el lugar donde transcurre la novela (Kenya) le habían denegado el permiso, se buscó un emplazamiento que le permitiera cazar algún que otro elefante, vamos, al más puro estilo Don Juan Carlos I. Mucho se ha dicho sobre el temperamento de Huston y es sabido que cuando el director habló con Bogart sobre el papel que iba interpretar le dijo algo así: "el héroe de la Reina de África es un borracho y un proscrito, tú eres el mayor borracho de la ciudad, así que eres perfecto para el personaje". Mientras, por su parte, Hepburn se sintió atraída por el personaje de la misionera y su relación con el pecador.

El rodaje en tierras africanas se convirtió en una especie de calvario para casi todo el equipo ya que muchos de sus integrantes acabaron padeciendo paludismo o disentería, lo mínimo era irse por la pata de abajo y luchar contra las hordas de mosquitos que asediaban el set de filmación. Bogart bromeaba diciendo que tanto él como Huston eran inmunes debido a su alimentación a base de alubias y espárragos enlatados acompañados de whisky escocés, así que los mosquitos que osaban atacarlos caían fulminados al acto. Además había que añadir a los mosquitos las serpientes venenosas, los cocodrilos, los escorpiones, es decir, un particular safari dentro de la propia película.

¡Hay amigos...! y qué decir de la Reina de África, ese barco destartalado y apunto de la ruina que consigue enfrentarse a la furia del Congo y a las embestidas del enemigo. Aún y tener un aspecto tan decrépito me gustaría navegar alguna vez en uno de esos islotes flotantes, donde parece que uno tiene lo que necesita y más. Un verdadero barco de travesía que no distaba mucho del real, el cual sufrió un hundimiento antes del predestinado por el guión.

En definitiva, esta película es digna de toda una serie de producciones de la época, en la que con ciertas variables difíciles de manejar se obtenían grandes resultados debido sobre todo al talento de los intérpretes y a unas adaptaciones estupendas de obras literarias excelentes.

HUSTON WE'VE A PROBLEM

Some months after viewing this film between adventure, comedy and romance, fall now into the account of its resemblance to the film starring Harrison Ford and Anne Heche "Six Days Seven Nights". As with many films of the decade, there were many obstacles that the project suffered before filming and premiere. The novel was published in 1935 in the handwriting of Cecil Scott Forester, spending more than 15 years until the film gave him the opportunity he deserved. Covered very different performers, specifically Bette Davis and David Niven, but finally ended up with John Huston directed Bogart and Hepburn both flying to Congo (Rio Riuki) and fleeing sets and studies that had not offered the image and photography that Spiegel and Huston particularly wanted and desired. Well, to be honest Huston also meant hunting practice, and as the place where the novel takes place (Kenya) had refused permission, we sought a location that would allow occasional elephant hunt, in the style of Don Juan Carlos I. Much has been said about Huston's  temperament and  is known that when the director spoke about the role that Bogart would interpret it said something like "the hero of the African Queen is a drunk and an outcast, you're the greatest drunk city, well you're perfect for the character. " While, on the other hand, Hepburn was drawn to the character of the missionary and his relationship with the sinner.

Filming on African soil became a kind of ordeal for almost all equipment as many of its members ended up suffering malaria or dysentery, it was at least going by the leg down and fight the hordes of mosquitoes that besieged the set of filming. Bogart joked that he and Huston were immune because of their diet based on canned beans and asparagus together with Scotch whiskey, so the mosquitoes who dared attack the act fell thunderstruck. Also had to add to mosquitoes poisonous snakes, crocodiles, scorpions, ie a private safari within the film itself.

There are friends ...! and what about the African Queen, the rickety boat and about to ruin getting face the fury of the Congo and the enemy lunges. And yet look so decrepit I would ever sail on one of those floating islands, where it seems that you have what you need and more. A true cruise ship that was not far from real, which suffered a collapse before predestined by the script.

In short, this movie is worth a number of productions of the time, in which some variables of difficult treatment were obtained  great results mainly due to the talent of the performers and a great adaptations of literary works excellent.

"Sucedió una noche_It Happened One Night (1934)" El bigote de Clark

Sucedió en 1934, con la llegada del sonoro, con la llegada de los grandes clásicos del siglo XX, tanto actores y actrices como películas. Contextualizando esta crítica a la época que le corresponde debe decirse de la película que es una más que una excelente comedia, un soberbio espectáculo cinematográfico y un hito con mayúsculas. Sucedió que se juntaron las casualidades más rocambolescas para que Gable, Colbert y Capra se unieran y dieran a luz a una de las screwball comedys más perfectas que un servidor recuerda haber visto. Hasta esta película, Gable no era más que una joven promesa de la Metro, Colbert deambulaba por la calle de la mediocridad interpretativa desde hacia algún tiempo, y Capra, no encontraba la oportunidad que necesitaba para dar ese paso de calidad que dan muy pocos directores. Sucedió una noche fue más que un éxito para Capra, fue un regalo para el cine en tanto en cuanto permitió al italo-americano comenzar su carrera como uno de los grandes.

Sucedió una noche es simplemente efectista apelando al amor entre clases y al ideario familiar embadurnándolo todo con un delicioso toque cómico. Gable demuestra que como mejor sabe estar es como cómico aunque desafortunadamente muy pocos papeles tuvo a parte de los de galán. Colbert está en su justa medida maravillosa y recatada. Pero lo mejor, sin lugar a dudas la dirección, en la que Capra estimula nuestro córtex cerebral para hacernos sentir emociones diversas y ricas en matices, todo un abanico de recursos técnicos y de guión que mantienen al cine del director como uno de los más exquisitos.

Por cierto, lo del bigote de Clark, resulta que fue a partir de Sucedió un noche que ese bigote a veces de pega se convirtió en tatuaje permanente del rostro de Gable, imponiendo una moda entre el americanito de clase media y dejando para siempre grabados en nuestra memoria su estampa.

CLARK'S MUSTACHE

"GOSSIP GIRL (2007)"S & B: UNAS HIJAS DE P. LOS CHICOS DEL SEXO, DROGAS Y FASHION-ROLL.

Un secreto que nunca diré. La reina cotilla es una red de chismorreo elevada a la enésima potencia, mucho más efectiva que cualquier revista rosa. Una legión de niñatos y niñatas dispuestos  a hacer la puñeta por afición, venganza, aburrimiento o mera diversión. Una red de elitistas soplamocos y cagabandurrias acostumbrados al sexo, drogas y fashion-roll con el pleno convencimiento de ser el centro del universo y con la certeza de vivir vidas vacías.

Gossip Girl es una serie que en cuanto a su argumento se refiere no aporta nada original. Ricos y no tan ricos mezclados como la compota de manzana en una ciudad cosmopolita como Nueva York en el barrio más elitista con mucho glamour y elevadas dosis de promiscuidad: el Upper East Side. Gente con un ADN primitivo incapaz de evolucionar y madurar como personas, cometiendo los mismos errores en un feedback de estupidez en el que cuando creen sacar la cabeza del lodo siguen más y más lastrados por sus absurdas costumbres y rituales.

Dicho esto, qué divertido se le hace a uno contemplar tal disparate. Como observar esos cuadros o imágenes con trucos visuales en los que mirando del derecho o del revés no le ves sentido alguno pero no por eso dejan de ser alucinantes. Lo cierto es que  ver como la gente se pone la zancadilla continuamente y continuamente se disculpan es un espectáculo de lo más morboso en la sociedad actual y una alegoría de la falsedad estupenda. No se encuentra hoy semejante ejercicio en el que la frase carpediem posea menos sentido.

GG es muy entretenida  a la vez que muy previsible, lo bueno es que lo que deseas o lo que temes que vaya a pasar pasa, y esbozas una sonrisa tras otra con los personajes tan bien complementados unos con otros. Una orgía de jóvenes y excelentes actores en una fiesta de los sentidos en la que cada miembro de GG probará lo mejor de lo mejor y sucumbirá a las miserias del hombre y la mujer.

Una banda sonora muy actual, unas excelentes interpretaciones y un paisaje urbano imponente es lo más destacable de GG. Además, si te gusta la moda y los modelitos no puedes perderte esta pasarela en forma de show televisivo. Aunque la fotografía es buena es demasiado de revista y la dirección tampoco es que entusiasme demasiado. Simplemente hay que verla porque es como la vida misma: surrealista. Y en cuanto a lo de saber quién es la reina cotilla pues es lo de menos.

Gossip Girl is a series that in their argument refers not add anything original. Rich and not so rich mixed applesauce as a cosmopolitan city like New York in the most elite and glamorous high doses of promiscuity: the Upper East Side. People with a primitive DNA unable to evolve and mature as individuals, making the same mistakes in a feedback of stupidity in which the head when they think out of the mud are more and more burdened by their absurd customs and rituals.


That said, what fun it makes one contemplate such nonsense. As seen those pictures or images with visual tricks that looking to the right or the reverse does not see any sense but that does not stop being awesome. The truth is that people see how the trip goes steadily and continuously apologize is a most morbid spectacle in modern society and an allegory of the great falsehood. There is now such an exercise in which the phrase Carpediem owns less sense.


GG is very entertaining while very predictable, the good thing is that what you want or what you fear will happen happens, and a smile after another with the characters so well complemented each other. An orgy of young and great actors in a feast for the senses in which every member of GG will test the best of the best and succumb to the misery of man and woman.


The soundtrack is very contemporary, excellent performances and a stunning urban landscape is the highlight of GG. Also, if you like fashion and outfits you can not miss this bridge in the form of TV show. Although photography is too good magazine and direction is not too excited. You just have to see it because it's like life itself: surreal.And as to what to know who is the gossip girl it is not important.

"Moonlight (2007)" El modernismo llega al mundo de los vampiros

De la mano de Moonlight nos llega la visión de un vampiro totalmente diferente a la vez que inseparablemente unido de los antiguos y arcaicos vampiros tipo Anne Rice o Bram Stoker. La serie se basa en un argumento atractivo en el que un vampiro detective, apartado de la senda más o menos maligna del resto de vampiros, lucha por aquellos humanos que valen la pena para castigar a los que lo merecen. Unas composiciones escénicas que superan incluso a películas del mismo tema. Moonlight es sencillamente rompedora y sugerente, y, pone de manifiesto que los vampiros como producto televisivo no pasan de moda.

"Tú y yo_An Affair to Remember (1957)" La película romántica perfecta...no es hablar por hablar.

Quizás sea por la estética de la fotografía, o por la música acertadamente enlazada con cada gesto y paisaje, quizás sea la inconmensurable actuación de Grant y Kerr o simplemente que la historia hipnotiza por su belleza y crueldad a la vez. Si alguien está dispuesto a reconocer que puede enamorarse disfrutará con esta película que, desde la entrada en escena de sus protagonistas hasta los créditos finales, nos plantea que complejas, maravillosas y estremecedoramente reales pueden llegar a ser las relaciones humanas. No se la pierdan.
