Estaba claro que la tercera entrega de Alien no podía estar al nivel de las anteriores, era casi imposible tratándose de una temática que en principio está bastante cerrada. No obstante si que esperaba algo más de calidad en la acción, unos personajes más trabajados y un desenlace digno. La película empieza bastante bien, sobre todo por que el lugar a donde va a estrellarse la nave auxiliar en la que viaja Ripley es nada más y nada menos que una penitenciaria con la escoria más indeseable, como se suele decir en la jerga de films carcelarios. Los personajes lo tienen todo para convertirse en verdaderos escaparates para el desarrollo de una trama que enganche de principio a fin, pero no están bien presentados y son demasiado superficiales para mi gusto. Además, el escenario que parece inmejorable, acaba siendo un aburrido laberinto en el que se producen escenas de escaso calado técnico.
Teniendo en cuenta que quien la dirige es David Fincher (Se7en, El Club de la Lucha o Zodiac entre otras) esperaba cierto grado de calidad en el apartado del suspense, y en vez de eso las escenas de esta tercera entrega están llenas de ruido (elementos que distraen), básicamente sobrecargado de efectos tipo explosiones y fuego y con una iluminación tétrica que bajo mi punto de vista está muy mal conseguida. Y vuelvo a repetir que la cárcel siderúrgica en la que se desarrolla la historia no esta para nada explotada como un personaje más. De todas maneras es la primera obra de Fincher, podemos ser benévolos y aceptar pulpo como animal de compañía.
Existe una versión extendida en DVD que no he podido ver todavía (aunque la verdad es que no tengo muchas ganas) en la que básicamente se alargan algunas secuencias y se cambian ciertos detalles, extensión en la que según parece nada tuvo que ver Fincher. Extendida o no, parece claro apuntar que este film es el peor de la saga con diferencia por su falta de personalidad y la pobreza argumental. Sin embargo se puede rescatar la parte final que consigue un buen clímax y reconciliarse al menos con las principales ideas de las anteriores sagas de evitar a toda costa que Weyland -Yutani, el emporio comercial interestelar que intenta a toda costa hacerse con un especímen vivo del Alien, consiga su propósito, ya que toda la película se había preocupado más en mostrar el juego del escondite entre Alien y los reclusos con Ripley de su lado.
En definitiva, si empezaste a ver Alien pues no te cabe otra que ver la tercera parte, ahora bien analizando Alien³ en solitario la película tiene un aprobado rascado, a si que ni por asomo la recomiendo si no es como parte de la saga.
